For first teaching in September 2009 and examination in June 2011 The new Listening Tests for WJEC GCSE cover the four prescribed Areas of Study for GCSE Music: Music in Wales Music for Stage and Screen Music Evolution and Musical Forms and Devices The questions are designed to test a pupil's understanding of such features of the music as instrumentation, texture, harmony, rhythm, structure, PLUS period and context. Questions range from shorter multiple-choice and musical recall questions to extended writing that requires deeper analysis and discussion of the musical extracts. Plus, general advice for preparing for and sitting the exams, as well as suggestions for further listening. Written by Alun Guy, the author of Rhinegold's WJEC GCSE Music Study Guide, this product is collaboration between Rhinegold Education and WJEC/CBAC. The pupils' book is available in both English and Welsh versions, while the teachers' book, which contains answers and mark schemes for all the questions, combines both English and Welsh versions in a single twist-and-turn format volume. A CD with all the extracts required for the questions is also available.
