Opus 2

The mazurkas are the third dancing style that Chopin encouraged in his music, after polonaises and waltzes. With about 60 pieces, they are the largest of these three groups. From his early years through his final years, Chopin frequently used the mazurka style. They demonstrate Chopin's deep affection for his own Poland as well as his understanding of the Polish way of thinking. He drew inspiration from the numerous styles of mazurka that may be heard in different parts of Poland, but he transformed them into absolutely stunning music with exquisite harmonies and powerful rhythms.
