Opus 2

€19.00

The "Pieces for Piano" op. 68 record by Robert Schumann was initially intended primarily as a birthday present for his daughter Marie. Is there a pianist who hasn't performed at least some of them? The fact that Schumann also wrote a "music historical course of instruction" for the piano in this context is less well known. This and other works that were initially meant for the "Album" are included in the appendix of our thoroughly edited edition. Our Urtext version paints a vivid image of middle-class musical culture in Schumann's time, and it is completed by the inclusion of Ludwig Richter's illustration from the first edition's title page and the "Advice to Young Musicians" in three languages.
