Known as 'Moses' and also 'General Tubman', Harriet Tubman was a leader of the Underground Railroad. She found her own freedom from slavery in 1849, when she fled on foot from a plantation in Maryland. In 1863 she became the first woman to lead an armed assult during the Civil War.
